How to pitch Reddit and AI visibility to a B2B client (with a script)
For agencies
Most agencies that add Reddit and AI visibility don’t struggle with delivery. They struggle with the first conversation. The client has heard that Reddit is hostile to brands, or that “AI SEO” is snake oil, and a slide deck about trends doesn’t change that.
What does change it is showing the client their own category, live, in the tools their buyers use. This guide gives you the order to pitch in, a 15-minute demo, a script, answers to the objections you’ll hear, and a scope for the first 90 days.
Who to pitch first
Don’t send this to your whole client list. Start where the conversation is easiest and the evidence is strongest.
- Clients who are already asking. Anyone who has mentioned ChatGPT, Perplexity, Reddit or “AI search” on a call in the last quarter. They’ve done half the pitch for you. Check your call notes and account managers’ inboxes.
- Clients in categories with heavy Reddit discussion. Sales and outbound tools (r/sales, r/coldemail), marketing and SEO tools (r/marketing, r/SEO, r/PPC), developer and data tools (r/devops, r/dataengineering), IT and networking (r/sysadmin, r/networking). A quick check: search Google for “best [category] reddit”. If several threads come back with real discussion, the client’s buyers are reading them.
- Clients with a visible competitor problem. If a competitor is named in every “which tool” thread and your client isn’t, the demo will make that obvious in minutes.
Leave for later the clients whose buyers genuinely don’t use Reddit, such as some niche public-sector or heavily regulated categories. You’ll lose credibility pitching it where it doesn’t fit.
The 15-minute live demo
Run it on the call, with screen share, not as a pre-recorded deck. The live element is the point: the client sees it isn’t staged.
Before the call (20 minutes of prep)
- Write three buying questions in the buyer’s words. For example: “What’s the best cold email tool for a five-person sales team?”, “Alternatives to [main competitor]”, and “Is [client] any good?”
- Run them yourself first so nothing catches you out. Answers vary between runs, so note the range of what you saw.
- Have ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Mode or Gemini open in separate tabs, in fresh sessions.
On the call
| Minutes | What you do | What to point at |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 | Set up: “Let’s ask what your buyers ask.” Let the client pick or tweak one question. | Their wording, not yours |
| 2–8 | Ask the same question in three assistants. | Who is named, in what order, how the client is described |
| 8–12 | Open the cited sources. | Which Reddit threads, comparison pages and review sites appear, and whether the client is in them |
| 12–15 | Summarise in one sentence and propose the next step. | The audit, not the full engagement |
Two things to handle well. If the client is named and described well, say so, then show which sources that rests on and how few of them there are; the pitch becomes protecting a position. If answers look odd or vary, say that’s normal and is exactly why you’d track it monthly rather than trust a screenshot.
For a deeper version of this exercise, the AI-answer audit in our SEO agency playbook sets out the full method.
The talk track
Adapt the wording to your voice. Keep the order.
- “Before we talk about anything we’d do, I want to show you what your buyers see when they ask an AI assistant about your category.”
- “Pick the question you’d most like to win. We’ll ask it in three places, live.”
- “Here’s who gets named. Here’s where you are, or aren’t.”
- “Now look at the sources. These are the pages the answer is built from. A couple are comparison pages, and these are Reddit threads where practitioners compared tools.”
- “Some of this we can fix with work we already do for you: clearer pages, honest comparison pages, getting you into the lists that are being cited.”
- “The Reddit threads are different. You can’t publish your way into them. The only way in is real people taking part, and saying who they work with.”
- “I’m not going to promise you’ll be named in these answers. Nobody can promise that honestly. What I can do is find out exactly which sources matter for your top twenty questions, fix what’s fixable, and report every month on what moved.”
- “The first step is a short audit. You’ll have the full picture in a few weeks, and you can decide from there.”
Line 7 does more work than any other. Clients have been oversold on this topic, and saying what you won’t promise is what makes the rest believable.
Handling the four objections
“Reddit hates marketers.” It hates being marketed at. Subreddits tolerate, and often welcome, people who answer the question that was asked, know the subject, and have been part of the community for a long time. Many have specific rules on vendors and self-promotion, which is why the work starts with mapping each community’s rules. The thing that gets punished is drive-by promotion, and we won’t do it.
“We tried it and got banned.” Ask what was tried. It’s usually one of three things: a new account posting links, a staff member promoting without saying who they were, or volume over usefulness. Each one has a clear fix: people with real history in the community, contributions that follow each subreddit’s rules, and answering questions rather than starting promotional threads. It’s also worth saying that a ban in one subreddit doesn’t rule out the category; it means starting more carefully.
“How do we measure it?” Three layers. First, the tracked questions: are you named and cited across the assistants, month on month. Second, the threads: which ones you took part in, how the answers were received, and which were removed and why. Third, the commercial signals you already track, such as branded search and “how did you hear about us” answers on demo forms. Be honest that the link to revenue is indirect and slow. It’s closer to PR than to paid search.
“Why not just run Reddit Ads?” Ads are worth running, for a launch or an event. But an ad sits beside the conversation, not in it. When a buyer searches “best [category] reddit”, Google returns the organic threads. When an assistant answers a buying question, it draws on the discussion, not the promoted posts. And the visibility stops the day the budget does. A useful answer from someone the community already knows keeps working in that thread, in Google and in AI answers for years. For the full comparison, including when ads or in-house are the better choice, see Reddit presence vs Reddit Ads vs doing it yourself.
Scoping the first 90 days
Keep the first engagement small and specific. It needs to prove the approach, not cover the category.
- Weeks 1–3: audit and map. 15–25 tracked buying questions across three or four assistants, a source map, and a community map covering where the category is discussed, which threads matter and each subreddit’s vendor rules.
- Weeks 3–4: brief. Choose three to five communities. Agree topics, what can and can’t be said about the product, and the tone. The client signs it off.
- Weeks 4–13: run. Owned-content fixes from the audit (question pages, comparison pages, listings) alongside community participation in the agreed subreddits.
- Week 13: review. Compare the tracked questions with the baseline, show what was done, and recommend whether to continue, widen or stop.
If you’re delivering the Reddit side through a partner, the structure of that arrangement is covered in white-label Reddit marketing for agencies.
What to put in the proposal
- The problem in the client’s words, using one screenshot from the live demo.
- The tracked questions, listed in full, so the client can see what’s being measured.
- The communities in scope and why each one was chosen.
- The deliverables per phase, as above.
- What you won’t do: no bought or rented accounts, no vote manipulation, no attempts to remove or bury criticism.
- Reporting: what arrives each month, and a sample.
- Commercials: audit fee, then monthly, with a 90-day minimum.
What never to promise
- That the client will be named, or named first, in any AI answer.
- A number of upvotes, a position on a thread, or a sentiment score.
- Removal or burial of negative threads.
- Results by a fixed date. Every category moves at its own pace.
Promise what you control: coverage of the agreed communities, accuracy, and an honest monthly report.
Before the call
Send the client why ChatGPT recommends your competitor a day ahead; it does the scene-setting so the demo can start straight away. If you plan to deliver the Reddit side with a partner, the agency partner kit explains how working with us is set up.
